Arkoun (Algeria/France) Mohammed Arkoun is Professor Emeritus of the history of Islamic thought at the Sorbonne Nouvelle, Paris III, and Scientific Director of the journal Arabica. Inducted as an Officer of the French Legion of Honor in 2001, he has received numerous awards for his intellectual achievements in addition to serving as a member of France’s High Council on the Family and Population, as well as the National Committee on Ethics in Life and Health Sciences. Mohammed Arkoun has held visiting professorships at several prestigious universities worldwide and is the author of more than a dozen books. His most recent work to appear in English is The Unthought in Contemporary Islamic Thought (Saqi Books, 2002).
